LOVE, BUT GOD’S WAY🥰❤️

Let’s talk a bit about love… I know, I know, it’s February and that’s all that’s being spoken about by literally everyone but hear me out 😅, please spare a few minutes and let’s have a conversation on love❤️. Yesterday was valentine’s day. We saw so much about love. Love was basically the agenda of the day. You see a lady walking with flowers on her hands, a man walking with a beautiful lady by her side, and at times you can’t help but go Aaww!! So cute!! 🥰 You look at that one couple in the Christian Union and can’t help but say God when?? 🥺

Relationships out here seem so beautiful, something that is admirable and quite inviting. You even wonder what one has to do to have one (team God abeg🙆😆). And now since we’re believers (which I hope we all are) let’s talk about love on a biblical foundation. A godly, Christ centered love/relationship. One authored by the author of love Himself – God. Seems too good to be true and almost perfect right? But oh, that’s not always the case. Stay with me, let me explain why.

Being in a relationship/dating in God’s way isn’t always easy, because let’s be honest, God’s standards are high!! 😩 And one of his standards is one delicate but beautiful thing, purity. So… let’s delve into that! Purity/Chastity is considered as a state of being free from anything that debases or contaminates – basically a pure thing is something that hasn’t been tainted morally or physically. So, when we look at it from a dating perspective, purity will mean staying away from anything that threatens a God-centered relationship – which in one word we refer to as immorality, which is mostly sexual, as in, (sexual sin).

But is sex sin? Definitely not! But sex outside the confines of marriage – that is sin. Sexual sin is one that easily entangles and ruins. 1st Corinthians 6:18 says “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.” But the thing is our sinful nature always desires sin 😖 so what do we do? 😰 Galatians 5:16-17 says “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

And now we see this tug of war existing between the flesh and the spirit, and it’s like we’re right at the center of the battlefield. And now you might be asking, living as mere mortals in a fallen world, is it even possible to date in a way that honors God? 🤔 And my answer is – Yes. Yes it is, it’s very much possible. David asks a similar question in Psalms 119:9-11 “How can a young person stay on the path of purity?” He then answers – “By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” And that is it! That’s how we relate in a way that honors God. By living according to His word! 📖

And the good thing is He is more than willing to help us. He knows that we’re just helpless creatures living in a fallen world. Jude 1:24 says “to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy…” this shows that He is in fact able to help us and keep us pure. So even as we celebrate love this month 🙈 and every other month that is to come, let us remember the place of purity in all this🤗 and that we’re not doing it for ourselves, but for Him, our greatest Love 🥰. I hope this was worth those minutes you spared 😊

A girl who’s also trying and trusting in Him,
