THE OTHER SIDE

Living as a Christian can sometimes feel like standing on a cliff’s edge, where the “other side”—a life unbound by faith’s principles—looks so tempting, carefree, and seductive. That pull is real; it’s the tension between the flesh and the spirit, a struggle Paul himself described in Romans 7:15-25 (sometimes I don’t even understand this passage), where he wrestled with wanting what he knew wasn’t right.

The allure of living without consequences, even for a day, can feel like a release from the discipline of faith. It’s like the world’s whispering, “Just let go, it’s easier over here,” with its promise of instant gratification through indulgence and abandoning what’s holy.

But you hit the nail on the head: slipping back means forgetting the fight it took to get where you are. Every step toward God—every moment of surrender, every choice to pray instead of give in—has built something in you. That’s not just willpower; it’s grace at work. Galatians 5:1 says, ‘It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.’ This reminds you to hold on, even when it’s hard.

When that edge feels too close, anchoring yourself in Scripture and prayer is like grabbing a lifeline. Try Psalm 73:23-26—it’s raw, honest, about envying the carefree wicked but realizing God’s grip on you is stronger. Or 1 Corinthians 10:13, which promises God always gives a way out of temptation. Prayer doesn’t have to be fancy; just cry out, “God, keep me steady.”

Embracing God’s Word shows you’re not just passively standing on the edge—you’re actively seeking God’s perspective. Keep that up. Maybe journal those moments when the “other side” tempts you, then write a verse next to it that pulls you back. It’s a way to see God’s faithfulness over time.

The edge is tough, but it’s also where faith grows strongest. You’re not alone there—every Christian feels it at some point. What’s one verse or habit that’s helped you stay grounded when the temptation hits hardest? Think about it.

Quoted verses

Romans 7:15-25 NIV
[15] I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. [16] And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. [17] As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. [18] For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. [19] For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. [20] Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. [21] So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. [22] For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; [23] but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. [24] What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? [25] Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

Psalms 73:23-26 NIV
[23] Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. [24] You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. [25] Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. [26] My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV
[13] No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

God bless you!! 🙏✨
