WHY AM I YET LIVING?

WHY AM I YET LIVING?

Why am I yet living, when I might have been gone?
Why does my heart, still awaken with the dawn?
When death drew near, why did mercy bid me stay?
When darkness called my name, who turned it away?
Why am I yet living, when I might have been gone?

When sickness swept, like a tempest through the land,
When death and destruction, marched hand in hand,
When accidents rose, like a thief in the night,
Yet somehow I lingered, beneath morning’s light,
Why am I yet living, when I might have been gone?

What have I done, with the mercies I’ve known?
How many souls, have I brought to Thy throne?
Thou gavest me breath, when I could not breathe,
Thou covered my life, when I should have grieved,   Why am I yet living, when I might have been gone?

Thou hast watered, my roots with grace,
Yet where is the fruit, to honour Thy face?
The tree that bears nothing, though planted and fed,
Shall answer the Master, when harvest is spread,
Why am I yet living, when I might have been gone?

Jonah fled from the call, that Heaven had bestowed,
Yet the depths could not, swallow the prophet of God,
The great fish became, both his prison and guide,
For Nineveh waited, beyond the sea-tossed tide,
Why am I yet living, when I might have been gone?

O Sun of my soul, let Thy radiance shine,
Consume every weakness, and make this life Thine,
Let not Thy sweet mercy, lie buried in me,
But kindle a flame, that the nations may see,
If Thou hast preserved me, then use me for Thee.

I owe Thee my mornings, my evenings, my days,
My breath is an offering, my life be Thy praise,
I cannot repay, what Thy mercy hath done,
Nor measure the love, Thou hast shown through Jesus,
If Thou hast preserved me, then use me for Thee.

Then take Thou my hands, and make them Thine own,
Take Thou my feet, let them walk where unknown,
Take Thou my lips, let them speak of Thy grace,
Take Thou my heart, make it burn for Thy face,
If Thou hast preserved me, then use me for Thee.

If one soul needs courage, let me bring them hope,
If one soul has fallen, let me help them to rise,
If one heart is wandering, let me point to the Way,
If one life lies broken, let me kneel there and pray,
If Thou hast preserved me, then use me for Thee.

For I am not preserved, merely to breathe and be,
I am spared for a purpose, a harvest for Thee,
Let my life be the seed, that in dying bears fruit,
Let my faith have a voice, and my calling take root,
If Thou hast preserved me, then use me for Thee.

John 15:8 ‬
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
